PhD candidates enrolled in their final year, from 1 to 3 months before the end of their final academic year, may request a single extension of up to 12 months for proven scientific reasons that require additional study and research before submitting their doctoral thesis.
Please note that engaging in work activities does not constitute a reason for requesting an extension, as work activities are authorized on the assumption that they are compatible with the effective completion of the training, teaching, and research activities of the PhD program (Art. 12, paragraph 14, of the University PhD Regulations).
Furthermore, in the case of maternity or paternity leave, serious health reasons, military or substitute service, attendance at a specialization school, university master’s program, higher education course, or other serious documented reasons, it is possible to suspend the PhD program for one to six months, repeatable up to a maximum of 18 months in total.
