Seminars

Seminars

The Calendar of Seminars and all educational activities is available on this page in the INSIGHTS section.

Please note: attendance at educational activities is mandatory for 80% of the lessons.
PhD students are required to attend all educational activities provided by the Doctorate in person. If unable to attend in person, the PhD student must apply to the Coordinator and justify the need for remote participation.

The EDUCATIONAL OFFER proposes a complete and integrated learning path, capable of preparing PhD students to undertake their research with an awareness of the variety of possible critical approaches. Each lesson/seminar will primarily exemplify a method of investigation that each PhD student can then develop within their disciplinary area, starting from the necessary methodological references and knowledge of the study tradition in their field of knowledge. Thanks to the five different teaching methods provided by the Doctorate, PhD students are encouraged to engage with non-univocal viewpoints, thus developing their critical thinking and analytical skills.

  1. Workshops
In this section, lecturers present the results of ongoing research. This approach allows PhD students to immerse themselves in studies and projects that have not yet been published. The premise of the educational proposal is the belief that every research object must be constructed and transformed over time.

  1. Methodologies
Within the methodological framework essential for the correct setting of a research project, PhD students are introduced to various possible research approaches. This will allow for the exploration of fundamental texts in various fields, such as literature, linguistics, cultural studies, and translation studies.

  1. Reading Guidance
Individual seminars will be set up as reading guides for short critical texts. These seminars are designed to stimulate critical reflection and promote an analytical approach to the texts, encouraging discussions that can enrich the understanding and appreciation of the works studied. Before the seminar date, PhD students are required to read and study the chosen text in order to actively participate in the discussion.
  1. Dialogues
Another distinctive element of the educational activities of the Doctorate in Foreign Literatures, Languages, and Cultures is represented by the “dialogues”. These meetings involve discussions between two or three experts in the field, addressing individual themes and texts differently than in a traditional lecture or seminar conducted by a single lecturer. The main objective of these dialogues is to expose PhD students to a variety of perspectives and interpretations.

5. Guided tours
Guided tours are planned to foundations and institutes that are part of the PhD programme's network of contacts.
