In the educational pathway of the PhD program in Microbiology, Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Transplantation “MIMIT,” each PhD student in the first year begins his or her research activity (laboratory and/or clinical) in one of the university facilities and/or national and non-national Research Institutions and/or affiliated Hospital Facilities, supervised by a mentor both for the practical laboratory (or clinical) activity as well as in the elaboration of the results obtained. For admission to the following year, each PhD student submitted a report of his or her research activity, describing the objectives set out to be achieved and the results achieved, even if preliminary.
This report also indicated any participation and presentations at conferences, abstracts and/or publications the PhD student did in the set period. In the context of seminars organized ad hoc by MIMIT for each academic year, first-year PhD students also presented their research activities towards the second half of the year, discussing their study project and preliminary results obtained. Some PhD students participated in nationally and internationally relevant conferences, seminars, meetings and/or refresher courses to share and enhance their results and/or to learn new valuable knowledge for their scientific, personal and professional growth. For example, some doctoral students participated in hands-on workshops such as one on cytometry in Naples. Several doctoral students participated in National congresses such as the Italian Society of Microbiology and the Italian Society of Virology.
One PhD student was in Ghent for a week, attending a symposium and subsequent workshop on HIV, while another PhD student, to enhance his clinical and research activities in the field of ophthalmology, started a research period of about one year in England at a specialized hospital, Moorfields Eye Hospital. In the training course for the PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Transplantation “MIMIT,” each 2nd-year doctoral student continued to carry out his or her own research activity (laboratory and/or clinical) in the various university facilities and/or national and non-national Research Institutions and/or contracted Hospital Facilities, supervised by a mentor both for practical laboratory (or clinical) activity as well as in the elaboration of the results obtained. For admission to the following year, each doctoral student submitted a report of his or her research activity, describing the objectives the research set out to achieve and the results achieved, even if preliminary. This report also indicated any participation and presentations at conferences, abstracts, and/or publications by the PhD student.
In the context of seminars organized ad hoc by MIMIT for each academic year, second-year doctoral students also presented their research activities by discussing their study project and the results obtained. Some doctoral students participated in nationally and internationally relevant conferences, seminars, meetings and/or refresher courses to share and enhance their results and/or to learn new valuable knowledge for their scientific, personal and professional growth. For example, some doctoral students participated in hands-on workshops such as one on cytometry in Naples. Several doctoral students have participated in National congresses such as that of the Italian Society of Microbiology and Italian Society of Virology, held in Naples, ICAR in Bergamo, and International ones such as EASL in London and/or HIV and Viral Hepatitis European Meeting in Paris, or a Virtual Congress & Workshop on CMV.
A Cameroonian Ph.D. student doing part of her research in Cameroon, was in Ghent for a week, attending a symposium and subsequent workshop on HIV, and then two weeks at the chair of virology at Tor Vergata. In the training course of the PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Transplantation “MIMIT,” each third-year doctoral student continued to carry out his or her own research activity (laboratory and/or clinical) in the various university facilities and/or national and non-national Research Institutions and/or contracted Hospital Facilities, supervised by a mentor both for practical laboratory (or clinical) activity as well as in the elaboration of the results obtained. For admission to the final examination, each PhD student submitted a report of his or her research activity, describing the objectives that the research set out to achieve and the results achieved, as well as any participation and presentations at conferences, abstracts, and/or publications. In the context of seminars organized ad hoc by MIMIT for each academic year, the third-year doctoral students also presented their research activities by discussing their study project and the results obtained.
