The primary objective of this PhD programme is to train experts in the field of materials for sustainable development, with applications in environmental, energy, and biomedical sectors. Graduates will be equipped to pursue careers not only in academia and research but also in industrial and professional contexts where multidisciplinarity is a fundamental requirement.
Throughout the PhD, candidates acquire not only the necessary theoretical and experimental technical competencies but also the ability to conduct in-depth independent research while maintaining strong teamwork skills within a multicultural environment. Proficiency in the English language is also fostered, notably through international research placements that constitute an integral part of the programme’s activities.
The programme aims to produce highly qualified professionals—currently scarcely available in Italy and rare even abroad—capable of operating in a key scientific and technological domain such as materials for sustainable development. These individuals will be able to access qualified professional opportunities not only in research but also in advanced industrial sectors, including energy, environmental technologies, and biomedical industries.
Furthermore, the programme seeks to encourage innovation and industrial growth within the Italian small and medium enterprise sector by equipping PhD candidates interested in entrepreneurship with the knowledge and skills required to initiate and develop their own business ventures.
