| CLASSICAL ANTIQUITY AND ITS RECEPTION: ARCHAEOLOGY, PHILOLOGY, HISTORY |
The PhD programme in "Classical Antiquity and its Legacy. Archaeology, Philology and History" aims to train scholars with a solid methodological and critical foundation in the fields of research corresponding to the following scientific-disciplinary sectors: STAN-01/A (Greek History), STAN-01/B (Roman History), FICP-01/C (Papyrology), ARCH-01/D (Classical Archaeology), ARCH-01/E (Christian, Late Antique and Medieval Archaeology), HELL-01/B (Greek Language and Literature) and HELL-01/D (Modern Greek Language and Literature), LATI-01/A (Latin Language and Literature), FICP-01/A (Greek and Latin Philology), HELL-01/C (Byzantine Civilisation), FLMR-01/A (Medieval and Humanistic Latin Literature), GLOT-01/A (Glottology and Linguistics), STAA-01/G (Semitic Studies - Languages and Literatures of Ethiopia), HIST-04/D (Palaeography). Unlike other doctoral programmes dealing with topics related to the ancient world, the aim is to avoid the specialised study of one of the three areas covered by the Doctorate (archaeology, philology and history) penalising an integral view of antiquity: therefore, doctoral students, while working on different and highly specialised projects, are required to participate in all the teaching activities provided, often held by internationally renowned scholars, with a markedly interdisciplinary approach, with the opportunity to explore specific aspects from the point of view of the historian of antiquity, the archaeologist and the philologist. At the same time, each student is constantly supervised in the preparation of their doctoral thesis by at least two internal tutors and by highly qualified scholars from outside the doctoral college, in cases of research requiring specialisms and rare skills not adequately represented in the teaching staff. |
