Presentation

The PhD program in Computer Science, Control and GeoInformation offers opportunities for highly interdisciplinary advanced education and research. The topics covered in this program are very broad and range from theory to practice. Themes covered in the PhD program in Computer Science, Control, and GeoInformation include:

  • HPC
  • operating systems
  • mobile applications
  • parallel and distributed systems
  • software engineering
  • IT security
  • big data management
  • modeling methodologies
  • control systems and robotics
  • operations research
  • optimization
  • machine learning
  • geospatial analysis and geomatics
  • remote sensing
  • electromagnetics and earth sciences
  • data science
  • health and human security
  • 5G
  • Internet of Things and Industry 4.0.

The objectives of this PhD program are to let students acquire knowledge on advanced methodologies in the above cited fields, and to enable them to perform fundamental and applied research targeting some of the aforementioned topics and related challenging applications. The program also promotes cross fertilization by the means of resource sharing (labs, instrumentation etc.) and the organization of open lectures and seminars by international well-known researchers. Students can also benefit from the wide networks of international collaborations set up by the PhD board members.

A rigorous approach is taken to follow and assess the activities of each individual student, which is based on appointing supervisors along the early phase of the students’ activities within the program, and on periodic checkpoints involving all the members of the PhD board.

The excellence of this program is also demonstrated by the fact that many of our alumni hold prestigious positions in academia, research centers, and industry. They have embarked on successful careers at universities, research centers, and companies, holding roles as researchers, postdocs, ICT experts, control systems engineers, embedded engineers, senior scientists, and many others, confirming the excellence of the doctoral program.
