Stefano Cordiner graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1989 and received a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering in 1993. In 2012 he has been appointed Full Professor in Fluid Machinery and Energy Conversion at Engineering Faculty of the University of Rome Tor Vergata were he was Associate Professor since 2004 and Senior Researcher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering since the 1994. From 2015 he is Director of Facility Management at the University Polyclinic of the University Tor Vergata – PTV. He has also been involved in the development of innovative solution for the reduction of the Carbon footprint of the Campus activities in cooperation with the national Ministry of Environment.He teaches basic courses on energy conversion and post graduate course in Internal Combustion Engines and Energy Conversion from Renewable Energies.

Dr Cordiner research activities are directed to understanding the characteristics of traditional and innovative energy conversion systems and their interactions with the environment. Research arguments include investigations on combustion process and pollutant formation in internal combustion engines as well as the development of innovative solution for efficient and clean energy production. Since the year 2000, his research interests have covered the use of hydrogen as a clean energy vector and its utilization in fuel cells. Dr. Cordiner has authored or co-authored over 150 technical publications including refereed journal articles (more than 60), peer rewieved proceedings of professional meetings (over 50 in this field) and proceedings of International and National technical meeting (publications=169, citations=2040, h-index=25 Google Scholar; publications=134, citations=1627, h-index 21 Scopus). He is involved in different international collaboration projects with institutions as the University of British Columbia in Canada, the Argonne National Laboratories in Chicago IL USA, the West Virginia University in Morgantown WV USA, the Columbia University in New York (NY) USA, the Mississipi State University (MS) USA, the Alabama State University (AL) USA, the University of Nevada Reno (NV) USA, the University of Aachen in Germany, the University Paul Gautier de Toulouse F.

Dr. Cordiner is responsible for different research and technological development projects with private and public research institutions and industrial companies both at the national and international levels. He has been local PI for the EU RTD projects “ACCEPT”, studying the feasibility of ammonia as an energy vector for fuel cells, “FCPoweredRBS”, developing an H2 based solution for power production for radio base stations, “FITUP”, a field test demonstration of fuel cell economic and environmental viability for portable generators, backup and UPS power system applications and for the EU-INTERREG project “BONG-HY” on application of blends of natural gas and hydrogen in internal combustion engines and fuel cells and is local PI for the research and development project “Hy2Rail” funded by the Austrian FFG and aiming to develop a H2 fueled locomotive. He has also been responsible for research projects in cooperation with ISPESL, CNR and ENEA focusing on the environmental impact reduction of both stationary and transport power sources. He has been a member of the Implementation Panel of the EU Hydrogen and Fuel cells Technology Platform.

Dr. Cordiner has also served in different administrative positions as a member of the university Senate and of the university Board. From January 2006 to February 2013, he has been the Energy Manager for the University of Rome Tor Vergata. In this role, he has driven a number of energy efficiency processes aiming to reduce the energy consumption and the CO2 emissions of University buildings.
