This doctoral degree aims to prepare researchers in nursing sciences and publich health, that should be able to contributing to the development of research methodology in nursing and public health. The doctoral students should acquire a solid foundation in qualitative and quantitative research, which are needed for the development and the integration of knowledge. They should be able to conduct observational and / or experimental studies, to integrate themselves with multidisciplinary groups and to facilitate the integration of scientific knowledge with other disciplines. Topics of interest of this doctoral degree include research methodology and epidemiology, global health, health economics, health organization and management. Issues related to the health of citizens will be explored by offering a theoretical basis to support the decision-making processes on the methodologies for providing health-care services, organization and training in the preventive, curative and rehabilitative fields by developing new health and care models. Research will be directed on issues of social and health relevance for the identification of health determinants. The research will be implemented on the prevention and control systems of infectious and chronic-degenerative diseases, also using predictive models of disease risk and / or genetic susceptibility and the cost-benefit analysis of the various possible prevention policies.
