The PhD programme is open to holders of second-cycle degrees (ie. Masters Degrees), or similar academic title, awarded overseas and recognized as equivalent to an Italian degree. The programme aims to prepare students for scientific research in field of Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, Plastic Regenerative Surgery, Clinical Nutrition, Innovative Technologies and Medical Engineering for Surgery, Forensic Sciences. For the chosen research areas, PhD students develop the following specific knowledges and skills: • Oncoplastic Breast Surgery area: students will address the following issues: sentinel lymph node and radio-guided surgery in breast disease, radical and reconstructive breast surgery, etc; • Plastic Regenerative Surgery area: students will address the following issues: applied surgical techniques and modern methods of reconstructive and aesthetic surgery with particular attention to the use of cellular components, e.g. mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSC), biological and synthetic scaffolds and autologous hemoderivatives for regenerative purposes, i.e. platelet rich plasma (PRP) and peripheral-blood mononucleated cells (PBMNC) • Clinical Nutrition area: students will address the following issues: role of body composition and proinflammatory cytokines in diseases and biological therapies, association between body composition and genetic polymorphisms, nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics, comparison of methods of evaluation of body composition, comparison of organic agriculture and conventional production on health, study of effects of Italian Mediterranean Diet on health; • Innovative Technologies and Medical Engineering for Surgery area: students will address the following issues: development and application of new technologies in surgery; • Forensic sciences area: students address the following issues criminal liability, civil liability, ethical liability and administrative liability of the doctor, analysis all the judgments in the field of medical liability.
