Carlos Sanchez Martin is a Tenure Track Researcher (RTT) at the Department of Experimental Medicine, University of Rome Tor Vergata. Dr. Carlos Sanchez Martin obtained his degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Salamanca (Spain), where he also earned his Ph.D. in Biology in 2011. His doctoral research was focused on the study of the antihyperglycemic and antioxidant effects of the flavonoid silibinin in animal models of type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Sanchez-Martin has over 10 years of international research experience in Biochemistry. He conducted postdoctoral research at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC, Madrid, Spain) for two years. In 2013, he was awarded a prestigious research fellowship from the Ramon Areces Foundation, which enabled him to continue his postdoctoral studies at the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit (Cambridge, United Kingdom). From 2015 to 2022, he worked as a research fellow at the University of Padua under supervision of Prof. Andrea Rasola, focusing on the development and characterization of novel compounds targeting the mitochondrial chaperone TRAP1 in experimental models of neurofibromatosis type 1. In 2022, he was appointed as a fixed-term researcher at the University of Bari, and since 2025, he has been working as a Tenure-Track Researcher (RTT) at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. In Prof. Eleonora Candi’s laboratory, he investigates the role of the polyol pathway and fructose metabolism in cancer metabolic reprogramming and neoplastic proliferation, using both in vitro and in vivo models integrated with metabolomic approaches.

Dr. Sanchez-Martin has published 20 peer-reviewed articles in international journals, with an H-index of 16 and over 700 citations. He also serves as a reviewer for several high-impact scientific journals, actively contributing to advancements in the field of biomedicine. In addition to his research, Dr. Sanchez-Martin teaches Biochemistry in the Degree in Veterinary Medicine.
