Born in Rome, 5th July 1961.
Degree in Mechanical Engineering with laude at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" (1987).
Research Associate at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” at the Machine Design division. (1990-99).
Substitute Professor at the module of Machine Design at the University of Cassino (1994-98).
Associate Professor at the University of Cassino with the chair of Machine Design (1998-2000.)
Full Professor of Machine Design at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” (since 2000).
Pietro Salvini research activities encompass several items of the Mechanical Engineering, from the point of view of modeling, optimal design and experimental features, among them:

 Numerical methods used in the structural analysis;
 Updating techniques for f.e. modelling reconciliation with experimental data;
 Plastic deformations of structures when interested by crash events;
 Optimal structural modifications to achieve particular dynamic responses of structures;
 Fracture Mechanics with particular interest in the ductile propagation of fractures in buried pipelines;
 Fatigue and crash behaviour of spot welded structures;
 Active design of industrial machines to obtain an effective reduction of vibrations and noise;
 Dynamic behaviour of long trains to the study of safely running of trains on railways under stationary and transitory conditions;
 Optimal satellite disposal and technique for their optimal repositioning;
 Inertial navigation systems based on a cooperation with GPS satellite systems;
 Optical methods for strain measurements;
 Mechanical Characterization of metallic nets for deploying satellites;
 Analytical and analytical-numerical tools to solve monodimensional structures subjected to large deformations

Pietro Salvini is the author of more than 200 papers on the above mentioned subjects. Almost half of them are published on international journal or have been presented and published at many International Conferences.
He has been a collaborator of the Istituto della Enciclopedia Treccani (1993-1998).
He is associated with the principal Italian associations that are interested on the above mentioned items (AIAS, AIMETA, IGF, CIFI) and he is also associated with foreign societies (ASME, SAE, SEM).
From 2014 to 2019 he has been the coordinator of a new PhD school “Ingegneria per la Progettazine e Produzione industriale”.
He received an award (premio Capocaccia) by AIAS in 1995 and another by SAE in 1999 (Arch T. Colwell Award), finally he received other awards by CIFI (2005) and (2009). Recently (2014) he recived the best paper award at the 2nd International Conference on Advanced Lightweight Structures and Reflector Antennas
He is in the editorial board of some journal for his field.
