Paolo Colantonio was born in Rome on 22 March 1969.
He received the M.Sc. degree in Electronic Engineering and the Ph.D. in Telecommunications and Microelectronics from the University of Roma Tor Vergata, Italy, in 1994 and 2000, respectively.
In November 1999 he became a Research Assistant at the Electronic Engineering Department of the University of Roma Tor Vergata, and in December 2002 he became an Associate Professor of microwave electronics at the same university.
Since February 2018 he has been Full Professor of Electronics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
From 2004 to 2024, he served as Vice President of the University Consortium ARES – Applied Research and Engineering for Space.
Since March 2006, he has been the institutional delegate of the University of Rome Tor Vergata to the Management Committee of the Microwave Engineering Center for Space Applications (MECSA), an interuniversity consortium coordinating and promoting research activities in electronics and electromagnetics among 14 Italian universities.
In 2023, he was appointed President of the GAAS Association, a non-profit cultural organization founded in 1995 and devoted to fostering scientific and technological advancement in the field of high- and very-high-frequency electronics.
He has been elevated to IEEE Fellow effective 1st Jan. 2024.
He has been appointed General Chair of EuMW 2027.
His academic duties encompass teaching activities within B.S. and M.S. programs in Electronics, coordination and supervision of research groups, leadership of national and international research projects, fulfillment of institutional responsibilities, and dissemination of scientific results at major international conferences.
Professor Colantonio is the author or co-author of more than 300 scientific publications on the aforementioned research topics. His contributions include a monograph on solid-state power amplifiers (High Efficiency RF and Microwave Solid State Power Amplifiers, Wiley, 2009), two book chapters, four entries in the Encyclopedia of RF and Microwave Engineering (Wiley), and two patents. Since 2018, he has been the organizer of the short course on the fundamentals of power amplifier design held during EuMW.
He has extensive expertise in the design and development of high-power amplifiers (HPAs) and has acted as unit leader and technical manager for power-module design in several spaceborne SSPA programs, including:
