Ambiti di ricerca

La mia attività di ricerca si è sempre incentrata sui meccanismi molecolari che sottendono le malattie neuromuscolari. I miei progetti in corso sono i seguenti:

- indagare come l'infiammazione cronica e la fibrosi contribuiscano alla sclerosi laterale amiotrofica (SLA) ed esplorare il potenziale di farmaci anti-infiammatori e anti-fibrotici come strategie per rallentare la progressione della malattia;

- studiare il dismetabolismo dell'RNA messaggero e la deregolazione dello splicing alterativo nella patogenesi della SLA;

- investigare il contributo della microglia nella neurodegenerazione cerebellare nell’Atassia di Friedreich;

- esplorare il coinvolgimento della proteina pro-infiammatoria S100A4 nell'interazione tra macrofagi e cellule muscolari nella patogenesi della distrofia muscolare di Duchenne.

I progetti sono condotti integrando approcci biochimici a modelli cellulari e animali delle malattie.
