Francesco Fabbro is researcher rtd-B in Experimental Pedagogy at the Department of History, Cultural Heritage, Education and Society of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. His research interests include critical pedagogy, (digital) methods of empirical research in education, Media Education and educational evaluation. Since 2013, he has been participating in national and international research projects and teaching activities in several Italian universities. On 25 January 2022, he was awarded the national scientific qualification for the functions of professor of the second rank for the concurrency sector 11/D2 - Didactics, Special Pedagogy and Educational Research.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

PhD in Education Sciences and Continuing Education awarded on 17/04/2009 at the University of Verona.
Title of thesis: The construction of youth civic participation and the Internet. Case studies in the Italian context.

Research activities:
- Participation in the national research project "The impact of e-Twinning on teachers' innovative professional development" commissioned by the Italian eTwinning Unit to Prof. Maria Ranieri (University of Florence) in collaboration with INDIRE. The research aims to quantitatively and qualitatively assess the impact of participation in the activities of the international e-Twinning community supporting the professional development of in-service teachers in Italy.

- Participation in the European project Forming active European Citizens through the dialectical method and theatre (EAR) [Erasmus+]. The project aims to promote a citizenship education strategy in schools that combines the use of the dialectical method with theatre techniques. As part of the project, quantitative and qualitative empirical research was conducted in order to assess the impact of the training on teachers and the effectiveness of the teaching methods on the promotion of citizenship skills among students (aged 9-15).

The project aims to qualitatively explore the integration of digital technologies in education through ethnographic observations of classroom lessons and focus groups with teachers and students (ages 6-12) and comparisons between teaching practices in Italy and the U.S.A.

[Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship Programme]. The NISO project aims to promote a broader knowledge and understanding of human rights among students, especially with regard to sexual orientation and gender identity. As part of the project, a series of media-educational activities aimed at adolescents were designed and monitored.
