Federica Formiga is Associate Professor in Archival Studies, Bibliography and Library Science (M-STO/08) at the University of Verona.
After graduating with a BA in classical studies from the University of Padova and in Heritage Conservation from the University of Udine, she completed her PhD in 2006 in bibliographical sciences and won comparative selection for the post of researcher in Archival Studies, Bibliography and Library Science. She was entrusted with the teaching of Bibliography and Library Science in the Faculty of Arts at Padova for the years 2002–2003, and now teaches History of the Book, History of Publishing and Archival Studies at the University of Verona. She has published essays on the history of publishing and the printing press, on the woodcuts of early modern books, and on the use of the printing press during the Great War in numerous national and international journals. She has also published monographs on a family of seventeenth-century Veronese printers, on the art history of the press in relation to the island of Malta and the Order of Malta, on the pamphlet press during the Great War, and on the history of the book from Gutenberg to the present day.
She has participated in PRIN national research projects studying the world of the book and publishing, and in projects financed by the Joint Commission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Heritage and Federesuli, and by the Ministry of Culture’s Cultural Centre for the Book and Literature. Since 2013 she has been Director of the Masters in Publishing and since 2022 Director of the Masters in Bibliotherapy at the University of Verona. Since 2023, she has edited the open-access journal Sistema editoria. Rivista internazionale di studi sulla contemporaneità/Publishing Eco-system: International Journal of Publishing Studies.
She has worked on behalf of the third parties Messaggerie Libri and the Italian Booksellers Association (ALI) on publishing and book market research projects, and for the municipality of San Bonifacio (VR) on archival organization and systematization.

Responsible for and coordinator of the study and research activity requested by Messaggerie italiane S.P.A. for a study and analysis of publishing data in order to define the strategies that supply chain actors have put in place, especially after 2020, to reduce the impact of returns, evaluate their effectiveness and present possible new models;
Responsible for and coordinator of the study and research activity requested by the Italian Association of Booksellers (ALI) for a research in order to attempt to understand, through a diachronic and synchronic analysis, with which professionalism involved in the supply chain booksellers relate to try to remain competitive in a sector that, as always, has to reinvent itself and seize new opportunities;
Responsible and scientific coordinator of the project sponsored by the Ministry of Culture - Center for Books and Reading concerning the application of bibliotherapy in schools.
