Fabio Di Carlo is Associate Professor of Structural Engineering (ssd ICAR/09) at the Department of Civil Engineering and Computer Science Engineering of the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

He is Professor of “Existing RC structures” (9 cfu) and “Principles of seismic design” (4 cfu), for the MSc Course in “Building Engineering”.

He is member of the fib CEB-FIP TG3.2 “Modeling of structural performance of existing concrete structures”.

His research activity mainly focuses on degradation phenomena affecting reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures, use of fiber reinforced concrete for structural applications, and structural assessment and health monitoring of the built-up environment with satellite radar interferometry.

Curriculum: History and Conservation of Built Heritage

MAIN RESEARCH EXPERTISE: The research activity covers the following topics:

Use of fibre-reinforced concrete for structural applications. Use of fibre-reinforced concrete in new structures, including tunnels, bridges and pavements. Use of fibre-reinforced concrete for the reinforcement of existing reinforced concrete structures.

Tunnels, with particular reference to precast segmental lining tunnels.

Bridges, with particular reference to the behaviour of reinforced concrete decks and Gerber girder bridges. Vehicles impact.

Behavior of new and existing structures subject to fire.

Degradation phenomena affecting reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures, with particular reference to corrosion phenomena of reinforcement bars induced by carbonation and chlorides.

Masonry structures. In-plane and out-of-plane collapse mechanisms.

Monitoring and interpretation of the structural behaviour of structures and infrastructures using satellite interferometric data.
