Research interests 1) Molecular evolution and phylogeny -Application of genetic and molecular techniques for the characterization and taxonomic identification of plant species 2) Biodiversity informatics and taxonomy -Constitution of a seed bank and application of in vitro plant cultures for preservation and conservation of germplasm (e.g., cultivars of agri-food interest; threatened and non-threatened native species) in the Botanical Garden of Rome Tor Vergata -Monitoring of plant biodiversity by palynological analysis through beehive products 3) Biotechnologies for the environment -Research of new cultivars of higher plants with phytoremediation capacity -Alternative energies: plant species for biomass production -In vitro cultures for studying plant response to environmental stressors -High-efficiency phytoassociations for the removal of CO2 -Sustainable production of food plants by aquaponics system 4) Natural compounds for new diagnostic applications and new active principles/One health: -Nutraceutics and foods: characterization of plant secondary metabolites by chromatographic approaches (e.g., GC-MS and LC-MS) -Certification of food quality: environmental contaminants and bioactive compounds
